This is a paraphrase from a lecture I gave to some young upstarts.
A SECRET IF YOU WANT TO BE RICH
Join a circle of the rich: Here is how to get this done. It is a very simple process that can take you 3-6 months.
1. The FIRST step is to shake off your introvert nature & wear the cloak of an extrovert. Yes, it is all pretense, but life itself is a stage and we are all actors. Talk of building confidence. That is the point.
2. MEET THE RICH ON THEIR TUFF
Look out for the cheapest tuff. i.e. Art exhibitions (gate fee is free) or during book readings or recitals. British Council, Goethe Institut are good venues.
EXPENSIVE TUFF
These are not worth the farthing it takes to join them. Examples are the Polo clubs, Boat & Yacht clubs OR Golf clubs (as hypothetical examples). If you have the spare dough, you have an edge.
So let's stick to the free venues. So you are left with the world of the Art to strategically interact. Yes, attend these shows & learn to listen. Don't be in a haste to speak. You must learn the lingo first. Carefully dress the part too. Simple and definitely not overdressed.
When you have done this for about 3 months, you could try your hands on investing in the arts. Start small. A painting here today, a recital tomorrow. Slowly your face becomes known in that circle. You could mention the one or two artists in your collection. Don’t pontificate or be sanctimonious. You just started.
It is very smart to let your discussions show that you do not know but you are very willing to learn the various trends, schools & thoughts. The rich are too smart and intellectually alert. They can smell a fraudster mile away. They are vast readers of their hobbies. But if they sense your honesty & willingness to learn, they will open their collection to you. It is the same as opening their hearts to you. Sooner or later your professional services will be required.
There is no shortcut.
